BOXING

AMATEUR TOURNEY. MOERA BEAT WAIRARAPA. The Wairarapa Boxing Association staged an amateur tournament in the Dixon Street Hall on Saturday ovening. The main bouts were contested between representatives of the Moera Club and Wairarapa clubs. In the count up it was found that Moera won four bouts, Wairarapa three, while two were drawn. The cup (donated by Mr G. Hill) for the most scientific boxer was won by F. Pritchard after a particularly fast and willing contest. There was a large attendance and the contests were of a very interesting nature. During the evening ..H,:3>u;qn, -theHutt Valley professional lightweight, was introduced to the audience and ho issued a challenge to fight the winner of next Saturday’s contest. He later boxed three exhibition rounds, one with A. Byrne and two with B. Bradbury. The officials for the evening were: President, Mr G. W. Sellar; referee, Mr G. Barr; lion, timekeeper, Mr E. Norman; call steward, Mr Finlayson; glove steward, Mr Ryan; official seconds, Messrs. Catherall and J. Watson; lion, surgeon, ’ Dr. J. C. Forsyth. The contests l resulted as follow (M denoting Moera, W Wairarapa, Pha. Pahiatua): — H. Fulton (W) 6.7 drew with F. Traynor (M) 6.7; R. Regan (W) 5.7 lost to D. Coburn (M) 5.7 on points; F. Wilkins (W) 10.2 beat F. Scott (M) 10.2, on points; R. J. Phear (W) 11.13 lost to Nichol (M) 12.2, on points; A. Hurst (Pha.) 12.0 beat A. Hobson (W) 11.9, on a technical knock-out; Clements ,(W) 10.6 lost to Alexander (W) 10.8, points; F. Pritchard (W) 11.12 beat Liver (M) 11.13 on points; J. Gardner (W) ,9.10 drew with E. Edney (M), 9.10; L. Fulton (W) 6.0 lost to P. Dunn (M) 6.2, on points; W. Nix (W) 10.13 lost to F. Martin (M) 10.6, on a technical knock-out; M. Rees (W) 410 beat E.
