GOLF

AMERICANS AT HUTT. The noted American golfers, Gene Sarazcn, who won the British open and the American open championship in 1932, and Miss Helen Hicks, holder of the American women’s open title in 1932, in action in an exhibition match against the Hutt amateurs, J. L. Black and B. M. Silk, attracted some 500 people to the Hutt links on Saturday afternoon. In a fourball best-ball match over 18 holes, Sarazen was the dominant figure, and, through his masterly play, the American tourists won by 1 up. The course was on the heavy side, * and a strong north-westerly wind made low scoring difficult. Conditions were made still harder by the uneven surface of several of the greens. Nevertheless, Sarazen went out in 38 and returned in 35. His 73 was one under the standard scratch score for tho course, and was good shooting under the ad--verse conditions. Miss Hicks proved herself an able player by going out in 41 and returning in 40.
