WAHINE MISHAP

AN ERROR OF JUDGMENT. WELLINGTON, Friday. A decision that Captain B. B. Irwin was guilty of an error of judgment was reached by the Court of Inquiry into the mishap to the inter-island steamer Wahine, which crashed into the Pipitea Wharf on sth June. The court returned the captain’s certificate unendorsed. Captain Irwin was found guilty of an error of judgment on-two counts: — (1) In steering the course he did from the beam at Point Jerningham, which he did not see. (2) In approaching the wharves in such a fog at an excessive speed.— (P.A.)
