FEILDING SALE. FEILDING, Friday. The market for breeding ewes showed a firm and promising tone at the live stock sale to-day, when some good' lines offered brought extra keen competition, two-tooth ewes in lamb going to 375, and four-tooth to 38s 3d. There was also an improved market for ewe hoggets and wether hoggets, grown wethers advancing in sympathy with wether hoggets. The presence of outside buyers supported the fat sheep market, but the quality of the entry . joilt the average, and only very prime quality attracted attention. Very prime wethers went to 35s 3d, very prime ewes to 325, while a further rise is expected for these lines if quality is offered. An exceptionally heavy yarding of dairy cattle found the market quite recovered from last week’s drop, and prices again went to the highest level of the year. The store cattle yards comprised mostly boner cows and young Jersey heifers, the latter selling at firm prices, representing an advance of about 15s on the rates of a month ago. Run cattle sold fairly well. The heavy yarding of fat cattle comprised heavy prime beef lines which sold at top prices, ox beef making 30s a 1001 b., and cow beef 255.

Fat sheep: Prime heavy fat wethers, 35s 3d; good line, 30s; lighter, 26s to 20s; prime heavy ewes, 295; extra prime heavy, 325; very good, 28s Id; lighter, 23s 8d to 26s 6d; inferior, from 17s 3d; prime two-tooths, to 27s 6d; prime hoggets, light, 23s 7d; fail' weights, 21s 8d; light, from 17s 1 6d. Store sheep: Breeding ewes, two-tooth, 375; four, six-tooth, 38s 3d; four-year, 335; four, five-year, 32s 6d; five-year, to 29s 8d; m.a., 23s to 29s 6d; ewe hoggets, good, 30s lOd to 335; fair from 25s 7d; wether hoggets, good to 22s 9d, fair 18s 2d to 21s 9d; wethers, 20s to 25s 2d.

Dairy cattle: Springing heifers, close to calving, £6 to £7 10s; late calvers, £4 to £5 15s. Store cattle: Boner cows, forward condition, to £3 7s; poor, from 335; forward dairy cows, to £4 10s; weaner Jersey heifers, good, to £3 10s; Shorthorn cross steers, £3 4s; small Shorthorn steers, £4; Holstein cows, £3 Is; P.A. steers, £5 6s; cows, £4 15s; heifers, £2 17s; P.A. bull, £l3 5s,—(P.A.) CARTERTON SALE. Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report: —We held our weekly sale at Carterton yesterday, when we offered a big yarding to a good attendance. The entry of cattle comprised 1 chiefly good springing heifers, and the enquiry was firm. Mr Simon Dalgleisli, of Longbush, offered 30 3-year springing heifers, and these met with keen competition. Prices made up to £8 ss, and the line averaged the very satisfactory price of £7 10s. Other heifers sold well, D. Anderson’s making £7 15s, and Q. Donald’s (jun.) averaged £8 3s. Springing cows made between £6 to £B. Store cattle sold at par rates, while there was a strong demand for anything in condition. Only a few sheep were offered. Pigs sold well, especially sows due to farrow. Porkers were in keen demand. The following are prices:— Sheep: Store ewes to 15s; cull ewes, to ss; small wether lambs to 11s; Romney rams to 21s. Cattle: 3-year Ayrshire heifers, just calved, £8 to £8 15sp 3-year Ayrshire heifers, on drop, £7 17s Gd to £8 ss; 3-year spg. Jersey heifers, £6 to £8 ss; 2-year spg. Jersey heifers, £4 10s to £6; 2-year Jersey heifers, just calved, £3 10s to £4; Jersey heifers, r.w. P.A. bull, to £4 ss; springing Jersey cows, £5 10s to £8 ss; cows on drop, £6 to £7 15s; empty cows, in good condition, £3 2s to £4; forward cows, £2 2s Gd to £3; store cows, 27s 6d to 38s.
