MR A. H. W. EVENDEN. RETURNED MEN FOREGATHER. To show their very great respect and estimation for Mr A. 11. W. Evenden, about one hundred members of the Wairarapa Returned Soldiers’ Association gathered at Masterton last night to make him a presentation and bid him farewell. Mr Evenden will leave on Tuesday next for Taumarunui. Mr J. 11. Irving presided, and the evening took the form of a social function, interspersed with musical items. In making Mr Evenden a presentation of a silver shaving mug and brush, on behalf of the returned men of the district, Mr Irving expressed the sincere regret of ex-service men at the departure of Mr Evenden, a past-chairman of the Association. He had taken a keen and lively interest in E.S.A. affairs during the four years he had been in Masterton.

The'presentation was made with musical honours, and three rousing cheers were given for the departing guest.. Mr Evenden, in accepting the gift, and also a fruit bowl of Chinese brass on behalf of Mrs Evenden, said he keenly regretted leaving Masterton after several years of happy association with fellow returned men, but although he was leaving this district, his interest in the welfare of the R.S.A. would continue wherever lie might be. The. function concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
