MASTERTON SITTING. TRAFFIC BREACHES. Before Mr H. P. LaAvry, S.M., the folloAving breaches of the traffic regulations Avere dealt Avith at the S.M. Court this morning. Roland Corlett- Avas fined 10s and costs 12s for having alloAved a motor car to remain continuously stationary, in Bannister Street for more than 15 minutes, ou 22nd February. Mr J. McGregor, traffic inspector for the Masterton Borough Council, stated that defendant’s car Avas parked in Bannister Street, right alongside the notice, at 11 a. in., and at 12.30 p.m. Avas still there. There Avere tAVO notice? in the street pointing out that 15 minutes’ parking only Avas alloAved. For haA'ing operated a motor vehicle not equipped Avith proper brakes, at Masterton, on 6th March, J. W. Thornton AA*as fined 30s and costs 10s. Mr N. Miller appeared for defendant and entered a plea of guilty. Defendant had been Avorking in the river during the morning carting gravel, and his brakes had got wet. This Avas thereason they Avere not acting satisfactorily. , , Inspector McGregor said that he tested defendant’s brakes, in the afternoon, Avhen they Avere practically useless. It took 150 feet for the footbrake' to act properly, and the handbrake Avas right out of condition. The magistrate: “The brakes should have been dried put by the afternoon.” 'ri, i For having driven a motor vehicle at a speed Avhieh might have been dangerous to the public, when approaching the intersection of High and Short Streets on 21st February, Pura Logan Avas fined 30s, and costs 12s. Mr V. E. Burridge .appeared for defendant and entered a plea of guilty. Mr Burridge said defendant was a strangeii to the tOAvn. Inspector McGregor said that a ram fair Avas being held that day, and there Avas a lot of traffic about. Defendant did not sound his horn, and was doing about 40 miles an hour. E. Sullivan Avas fined 30s and 10s cost’s for having'operated a heavy motor vehicle on Opaki Road on . Ilth March, Avith a greater load than it was licensed to carry. , Inspector McGregor stated that the lorry Avas licensed to carry 4 tons, ana was carrying 1 ton 14 cwt. overload. Defendant’s excuse was that the tun-, ber lie Avas carrying had. got wet and become heavier overnight, A heavier load license had since been taken out. Frances Rose Isabella Stevens made application for variation of a maintenance order against Percy Alfred Rupert Stevens. An order was made accordingly.
