Estley Rushton, who was Commander of HM.A.S. Melbourne in 1916-19, crashed into a tree while motoring alone and was killed instantly. After many years’ service Mr W. Matheson has resigned from the pos» tion of honorary Dominion treasurer of* the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. He ■ is a life member of the Union and has served as a Dominion vice-president. The friends of Mr E. R, Rogers, who has been seriously ill at Glenwood Hospital, Masterton, for some time past, will be pleased to learn that he is so far convalescent as to have been able to return home. The engagement is announced of Miss Minnie Smith, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Smith, West Street, Greytown, to Mr Henry McKern’ eldest son of Mr and Mrs Featherston.

Mr W. J. Poison, M.P., lias been reelected president of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. He had decided not to seek a further term of office but in deference to strong representations agreed to continue as president for a> little longer. The funeral of the late Mr J. M. One of Martinborough’s oldest residents, Mr Murdoch Ross, celebrated his ninety-first birthday on Thursday. He was the recipient of many congratulatory messages from far and near, including one from the Mayor and Borough Councillors. Mr Ross for many years gave valued public service on the Martinborough Town Board. On behalf of the Session and Managers of the Presbyterian Church, the Rev. A. Tlnrdio was deputed to visit and convey felicitous greetings and good jvishes, while many personal friends wit"e also received by Mr Ross. y/

The funeral of the late Mr'-Donald Finlayson, Senr., which took place yesterday afternoon, was largely attended by sympathetic friends. There many beautiful wreaths, sent froir jmfr and near. The Rev. John Davie emulated. There was also a very impressive ceremony at the graveside by the ChiefRuler of the Rechabite Lodge, Mr G. Masters. The pall-bearers were Messrs M. J. McGregor and Malcolm McGregor (representing Knox Church); Messrs G. Masters and G. J. Norris (’Rechabite Lodsre), and Messrs A. E. Kilgour and E. Bell (Park Bowling Club). The wreaths included’ floral emblems from Knox Church, Rechabite Lodare, Park Bowling Club, Post and Telegraph staff, and Post and Telegraph Linesmen and Mechanicians.
