TRUST LANDS TRUST
MONTHLY MEETING. The Masterton Trust .Lands Trust held its monthly meeting last night, Mr T. E. Watson presiding. An apology for absence was received from Mr W. H. Jackson. It was decided to forward a letter of sympathy to Mr Jackson in connection with the illness of Mrs Jackson. DENTAL CLINIC. The Masterton Dental Clinic wrote, advising that they will not be able to make any payment on account of arrears of rent, £62 Bs, owing by them prior to 31st March, and asking the Trustees to consider making a grant to the Clinic, either by way of cash grant or by rebate of rental. Mr A. 0. Jones moved that the rent for last year be remitted. The work of the clinic was one of the first that the Trust should help. If the clinic was closed some children would be unable to get any dental work done at all. Medical opinion these days was that a great many illnesses came from defective teeth. In seconding the motion, Mr J. Macfarlane Laing said that grants this year would have to receive close discrimination. The only institutions they could support were those which were doing the most general good at the least cost. In granting to the clinic all schools would benefit. In some other cases only a section would benefit. There was one point of difficulty, and that was that Trustees knew the Central School was in arrears. If the clinic were allowed a remittance of rental, why not the Central School also? The Trust could reply to that that the clinic was a benefit to all. Mr E. G. Eton was of the opinion that a rebate on rent would be better than remission. He moved an amendment that decision be held over till the estimates were, considered. _ Since the letter was written the clinic had held a gala day, and may now be able to pa> something on account-. , Mr Jones said that the Central School would also have to receive consideratloln* seconding tho amendment, Mr H. P. Hugo said that he thought it better to hold the matter over till tho estimates were considered. There were other bodies which would have to receive consideration. Mr L Hughes said lie was not up against the clinic, and would like to do everything he could for-.it. He would, however, support the amendment, so that everybody would have a fan chance. A grant was better than a 10 The chairman said he, too wouid like to do all that was possible. There would be quite a mmibei of giants which would probably have to be cut .. •_ a grant was better than remitting The clinic knew they would not bo pushed for the rent. Tho amendment was carried.
