VALEDICTORY
MR. K. J. CAVERHILL.
A pleasant function took place yesterday afternoon when the staff of tho Public Trust Office entertained Mr K. J. Caverhill, who has been appointed to tho important position of DeputySuperintendent of the State Advances Office, Wellington, and who left today to take up his new duties. On behalf of the staff, Mr C. A. Carmine, District Accountant, in an appropriate speech, said they were extremely sorry to lose Mr Caverhill, but at the same time were all pleased that his ability had been recognised. Although Mr Caverhill had not applied for the vacancy, he had been selected by the Public Service Commissioner from the whole Public Service to fill the position„to which he had now been appointed. Mr Carmine, in .referring to the good work done by Mr Caverhill, observed that the latter had proved himself to be a first-class accountant, as well as a firstclass District Public Trustee. In addition he had originated h number of important improvements to the office system which had added to the efficiency of the work besides effecting considerable savings. Mr Carmine said ho was sure Mr Caverhill would be a valuable addition to the State Advances Office executive, especially at tho present time when it was do be merged into the new Mortgage Corporation, and that lie would have plenty of scope for his ability in organisation. Observing that Mr Caverhill would be missed by the general public, Mr Carmine said he had never before seen, on the transfer of any officer, so many letters expressing as "in this instance appreciation of the assistance given by Mr Caverhill, regret at his departure, and congratulations on his new appointment. On behalf of the st#ff. Mr Carmine also welcomed tho new District Public Trustee CMr Whyte) to Masterton and expressed a. hope that liis stay in Masterton would be pleasant. Mr Caverhill, in replying, stated that he had enioyed every minute of his two years in Masterton and had made many friends here. On his arrival he had been warmly welcomed by the general public and he regretted that he was obliged to leave. He also paid a tribute to the loyalty of the staff and acknowledged the assistance and consideration extended to him hv the general public of Masterton and district. Mr Caverhill said he honed that, his successor would have as pleasant a time here ns he had himself enjoyed.
