IN THE PACIFIC

AMERICAN ACTIVITY PLANS FOR HUGE AIRPORT. Press Association Electric TelegraDb—Copyright (Received Saturday, 9.30 a.m.) HONOLULU, Friday. Plans for a huge army airport adjoining Fort Kamehameha, near Pearl Harbour, are now rapidly taking shape. Agreements were reached in February between the United States and the Government and private landowners by which approximately 2600 acres of land will be transferred to the Federal Government which will pay £215,000 for tho land and the value of the growing crops. The plans provide for twelve hangars for land planes and two double hangars for seaplanes. There will be two sets of barracks for, enlisted men and also officers’ quarters, post office, telephone exchange, gymnasium, warehouses, fire station, garages, engineering shop and an administration building.

The authorities state that this project should not be considered in the light of an American countermove of development in Pacific affairs but as part of the Government’s long considered and unified programme for general development of appropriate areas on Oahu, making Hawaii the military and navy outpost of the United States.
