SCHOOL COMMITTEES

MASTERTON CENTRAL. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Central School Committee was held last evening, Mr J. E. McV. Calwell presiding, there being also present: Messrs W. R. Nicol, F. Whitton, A. E. Freeman, G. L. Scrivener and B. Heath. The secretary of the Dental Clinic forwarded a copy of the minutes of the recent meeting of representatives of school committees with the object of arranging some definite method of financing the clinic. The report was discussed at some length, but no decision was arrived at upon which to record a resolution. Messrs Masters, Whitton and Heath were appointed visiting members for the ensuing month. The secretary was directed to write to Mr W. 11. Jackson, thanking him for the continued personal interest he took in the care and progress of the school, which the committee much appreciated. The headmaster submitted his report, and arrangements were made to carry out various requirements. The attendance was now recovering, the percentage for the past week being--95, the roll number standing at 580. The inspectors’ report was very pleasing. MASTERTON WEST. A meeting of the Masterton West School Committee was held last night. Theer were present: —Messrs J. V. Gordon (chairman), W. Batty, J. A. Russell,E. Hollis, S. E. Taylor, F. Shearer, A. S. C. Robertson, and the headmaster, Mr L. J. Mark. Accounts totalling £24 3s lid were passed. The inspector’s report on the work of the school was favourably commented upon. The report of the headmaster stated that the roll number of the main school was 368, and side school 90. Various repair work was authorised.
