OPPERMAN SMASHES RECORD. LONDON, Wednesday. Opperman reached John o’ Groats at 4 o’clock in the afternoon. He covered the 866 miles distance from Land’s End at an average speed, including all halts, of 15 miles an hour and beat, the record established by J. Rossiter in 1929 by 4 hours 21 minutes.
