COOK RUNS AMOK

MURDER AND SUICIDE.

CALCUTTA, Thursday

Mr Downes, a European resident of Naini Tal, and his daughter, were seriously injured, and his ayah (nurse) and her husband, were killed when a Pathan cook ran amok with a revolver. The Pathan fell in love with the ayah. Her husband complained to Mr Downes, who remonstrated with the cook. The cook in the morning appeared with a pistol, fired point blank at Mr Downes and his daughter, and then went to the ayah’s quarters and shot her and her husband dead. He then shot himself. Mr Downes may live, but his daughter’s life is despaired of.
