TERRITORIAL MOVEMENT
THE SOCIAL SIDE. On Thursday evening the Masterton Territorial Social Club held their first dance in Miss Pat Nichol’s studio. There was an excellent attendance of members and their friends. The uniforms of the two units, the Wellington East Coast Mounted Rifles and the Hawke’s Bay Regiment making a striking and pleasing contrast to the gay dresses of the ladies. Old time and modern dance music was played, and many numbers had to be repeated over and over again at the instance of the dancers. Extras played by Misses Fiiilayson, Kjar and Ticeliurst, and Trooper Power and Privates Bowcock and Bodle were a feature of the evening. Novel supper arrangements greatly pleased, and at the same time expeditiously catered for the dancers, who expressed great appreciation of the dainty supper provided. The dance was brought to a happy conclusion with the unanimous wish that another such function be held at an early date. The object of the Territorial Social Club is to make the volunteer system more attractive to the serving members, and to those who may contemplate joining-up. Thanks to an energetic committee, headed by Corporal A. Newland and Q.M.S. Spicer, the club is a great success. Badminton is played at the Drill Hall on Thursday evenings, and matches with other clubs arc played. Thursday evening is devoted to miniature rifle shooting, and some high scores have, been registered in the championship competition, for which a handsome cup has been donated by Colonel Maunsell. Major Irving has donated a cup for the handicap competition, and there will be an inter-company competition later in the season. Owing to the decision of the Government to increase the company strength, there are several vacancies for recruits who are interested in military work.
