Mr Geo. Julian, of Featherston, who is in the Masterton Hospital, is now making good progress towards recOvbfy. The many friends of Mr W. Trudgeon, of Hessey Street, will regret to learn that he has had to enter the Masterton Hospital. He is suffering from pleurisy. The death is announced from Sydney of Dr. Maurice O’Reilly, rector of St. John’s Roman Catholic College within the University of Sydney, aged sixty-six years.

Mrs A. Olsen, Newman Road, Eketahuna, oldest surviving Eketahuna pioneer, celebrated her 86th birthday on Sunday and was the recipient of numerous congratulations. The death is reported in a cable from London of Mrs H. B. Irving, the actress, who was the original “Trilby.” Mrs Irving was, perhaps, better known as Dorothea Baird. M The engagement is announced of Marjorie Belle Hamilton, daughter of Mr and Mrs T. A. Hamilton, of Alartinborougli, to Air Frederick W. Hammond, third son of Air and Airs G. S. Hammond, Yorkshire, England. During last week-end a large number of Alasterton golfers were the guests of Airs E. A. Wrigley, at the homestead, “Tuki Walia,” Bideford. The private links provided those present with an excellent day’s sport, during which the visitors were very hospitably entertained. The trophies for the morning round were Avon by Airs W. Palamontain and All- R. AlcCourtie, ivhile those for the afternoon Avere Avon by Mr W. Batty and Airs Palamontain. Air V. Taylor, on behalf of- the A'isitors, expressed his own and the A-isitors’ apappreciation to the hostess for her kindness. Airs Wrigley appropriately replied.
