It is Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s “Secret of Madame Blanche.” The leading role l —that of a chorus girl who marries'a titled'’Englishman— is taken by the beautiful Irene' Dunne, whose performance is nothing short of inspiring. The story covers a period of more than twenty years, and Miss Dunne is seen first as -a (beautiful young Avoman,’ and later, as the years roll by, as a broken-hearted outcast, forsaken by everyone, fighting for the life of 'her son, who had been taken from her when he was a tiny child. The film is brimful of dramatic situation® that call for the most brilliant acting, and not one of the cast lets the show down. THE REGENT. f “IP I HAD A MILLION.” Fifteen stars are cast together in, “If I Had a Million,” which comes to the Regent Theatre this evening and will be shown finally at matinee and evening performances to-morrow. It is claimed that this make® the most important array of cinema talent which has ever been seen in a single production. The stars are Gary Cooper, George Raft, Wynne Gibson, Charles Laughton, Jack Oakie, Prances Dee, Charlie Ruggles, Alison Skip-worth, W. 0. Fields, Mary Boland, Roseoe Kara®, May Robson, Gene Raymond, Lucien Littlefield and Richard Bennett. They play in the story of an eccentric old millionaire who distributes hi® fortune among eight persons whose names , he chooses at random from a telephone directory. One of the beneficiaries is an ex-vaudeville actress; another, a lady of dubious past; a third, a rowdy Marine; another a young husband; another, an abused clerk in a china shop; another, a condemned murderer only a few hours from the electric chair; another, an inhabitant of an Old Ladies’ Home; another, a forger being sought •by the police; and the last, an underdog in an office. To each, sudden' wealth means something else. Tragedy and comedy follow in the Wake of the gifts f its results are sometimes ironic, sometimes romantic.
