RAM FAIR

AT SOLWAY SHOWGROUNDS. MANY SHEEP PASSED IN. The ram fair, held under the auspices of the Wairarapa Sheepibreeders ’ Association, was continued at the Solway Showgrounds yesterday afternoon, after the “Daily Times” went to press. There was spirited bidding for some lines, but it was evident that buyers were proceeding with caution. Although vendors were prepared to meet the market in most cases, it was early apparent that buyers were operating only within restricted limits, and passings were far more frequent than usual.

(Fifty-six of the 88 rams offered were passed in. The average price was 34 guineas. The whole offering realised 1090 guineas. Sir William Perry completely dominated the market for [Romney rams. Seventy-five lots were offered, and out of the 31 sold, 07 were on behalf of the Penrose breeder. His average price was 3(6 guineas.

There was no demand for stud 'Lincolns or (Southdowns, although most of the sheep showed good quality. Nine pens of Lincolns were passed without a bid, and only one of the six pens of Southdowns was sold. No ewes were catalogued in any of the sections.
