TROUBLE AT MINE
OVER RECENT DISMISSALS. WORK REFUSED. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. Men employed' at the Wilton Coal Mine at Glen Massey, near Huntly, numbering between 70 and 80, refused to work this -week. The reason given for their attitude was that it was a protest against the dismissal of 55 miners immediately before the Christmas holidays. The men worked last week, and the trouble became evident only this "week. The company was compelled to dismiss the 55 miners on account of slackness of trade. The miners have held several meetings in regard to the question, and further meetings are considered probable. When enquiries were made at the office of the Wilton Collieries, Ltd., Auckland, it was stated that no statement regarding the company’s position in the matter -would be made at present. It was stated that the men’s action was considered to be contrary to their agreement with their employers, and in consequence consideration would be giveu to the whole position. — (P.A.) ,
