Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following advice from their London Office, dated 11th instant (last week’s figures in parentheses): — Butter. —N.Z. choicest salted, 965-97 s per cwt. (965-98 s). Market slow. Cheese.—White, 5Ss-59s per cwt (595-60 s). 60s). Coloured, 595-60 s cwt. Market quiet. THE BUTTER POSITION. (Received Wednesday, 12.12 p.m.) LONDON, Thursday.
In behalf of the Australian and'New Zealand Butter Boards, Mr Boyce, M.P., has sent a letter to Mr J. H. Thomas, outlining the butter position and stating that Continental embargoes and restrictions outweighed the benefits of Britain’s 10 per cent protective duty, resulting in enormous quantities being diverted to the British market, thus depressing prices.
