Bracketed on the g new disc are the "Valse Triste” of m Sibelius (Op. 41) and Grieg’s "NorB wegian Bridal Procession ’ ’—one of his B earner piano pieces. Murdoch plays 2 magnificently, and the reproduction is g another triumph of Columbia pianola recording. It is a novel experience to g hear the well-known "\alse Triste in piano form, and the varying shades of expression obtained by William Mur--55 doeh in iiis rendering seem to give the piece a new meaning. This is a recording of the wellH known Liszt "Lieberstraum” in A ■ Elat, paired with a Pugnani "Prelude I and Allegro.” Both, of course, are g viola solos, arranged by Tertis him--0 self, and his accompanist is Ethel K Hobday, a pianist well known for her 5 Columbia recordings of chamber music, gj Numerous as are the versions of the g famous "Liebestraum,” this, by Lionel ■ Tertis, will be especially welcomed for H its new beauty. (Columbia DON 207). ■** * „ * ® "Londonderry Air.” g Kreisler’s fiddle arrangement of the H lovely "Londonderry Air” has been B further arranged by Leon Goossens, B the great oboe virtuoso, to- come within 0 the compass of his instrument. On this jjj disc (Columbia DO 614) he pairs it 3 with an item called "Piece,” by Gab--3 riel Faure. Leon Goossens’ first Co--13 lumbia record earned him the applause 3 of critics and public alike, and the j? oboe, of all instruments, seems to have g the plaintively beautiful tone necessary g to perfect representation of the tradi--8 tional "Londonderry Air.” I —- a ——
