AMERICAN PROHIBITION

CONTROL OF LIQUOR,

WASHINGTON, Monday

The House of Representatives voted, by 227 to IS7 to-day against taking up legislation designed te turn back the control of liquor to the States. The vote, which puts members on record for the first time in twelve years on Prohibition revision, was whether to discharge the Judiciary Committee from jurisdiction over the Beck-Lintlii-cum resolution for the amendment of the Eighteenth Amendment. The votes commanded by the antiProhibitionists were even larger than, many of them expected. The success of the anti-Prohibitionists in securing a roll call is a considerable trumph for the wets.
