WAIRARAPA COMPETITIONS. SECOND ROUND COMMENCED. On Saturday afternoon the second round in the Wairarapa Cricket Association’s competition was commenced. The feature of the day ’s play was the i:;2 runs made by Old Boys for the loss of only two wickets in their lirst innings against Featherston. United, matched against Carterton, have a lead of 47 on the first innings. . UNITED’S LEAD.

Playing on a fast and uneven wicket, United in their match with Carterton, at Carterton, made 151 in the first innings. Sherratt contributed a valuable 54 to the total, while Hoar made 28. The other batsmen only contributed moderate scores. Carterton’s first, innings ended at .104, and the small total was due to the excellent bowling of F. Hoar, A. Hoar and Barr. At the High School grounds, Old Boys dismissed Featherston for 158 in .the first innings. The Featherston batsmen were not particularly comfortable against the bowling of their opponents, and McClennan 30, Ilosking 39 not-out, and Welch 26 contributed over half the first innings total. Old Boys made an excellent start in their first innings, and at the drawing of stumps for the day came within 26 of Featherston’s first innings score for the loss of only two wickets. One of tlie liveliest innings of the tour placed the South Africans 313 ahead of South Australia. The Africans knocked up 200 in 133 minutes, and 400 in 307 minutes.
