MOTOR CAMP SITE
CR. PEACOCK’S PROPOSAL. The question of a . motor camping site was raised at a meeting of the Borough Council last night by Cr. H. M. Peacock. He thought they should put Masterton on the map by establishing a camp worthy of this town. He suggested that the site should be in the park and at the eastern end of the lake immediately behind the bathing shed. Cr. Peacock forecasted the removal of the bathing shed which he said was an eyesore. The Mayor, Mr. T. Jordan, gavcjytke reasons for the abandonment of the Solway Showgrounds site and said the area between the bridges had been suggested. The Council he said, would not be justified in expenditure on a site mote from the town. “There is too much social service given by local bodies,” remarked the Mayor in referring to the cost of fitting up a camp with the usual appointments. He thought that if the motoring public wanted such conveniences they should be prepared to pay something towards the co6t of establishing a camp site. Mr. Jordan said the matter could be discussed fully if the Wairarapa Automobile Association and the Chamber of Commerce laid before them plans in respect to the arrangement of the camp.
