DANNEVIRKE SHOW

Some day pigs will play a, more prominent part in .New Zealand s fanning industry than they do at the present time. The Dannevirke A. and F. Association is alive to the possibilities of the pig and has catered extensively for the breeder in its schedule for its annual show on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 9th. and 10th. Special prizes have been allocated to the Berkshire section for this show. Tamworth and Large White are also furnished with eignt classes in which they may compete, while other breeds may find their place in the pens. Large Whites have come into prominence of late, and it is hoped that they will be strongly represented at the Dannevirke shdw. District breeders of purebreds are specially catered for, these classes being open only to competitors in the district from Woodville on the south to Waipawa on the north. Dairy factory managers who intend competing should note that the dairy produce section has been revised. Judging will commence at noon on Monday, February Bth, and exhibits, which should be forwarded three days earlier, will be kept in cool storage until judging day. There is a new class for one crate of cheese, to be selected from grading store, railed to the show and returned afterwards, also one for box of export butter, which will be similarly dealt with. Three challenge cups and a gold medal go as special prizes in this section, and the cups when won become the property of the factory manager and not the dairy company by which he is employed. The dairy produce display at Dannevirke has made steady progress in latter years, and, being the centre of a dairying district, it is only natural to expect that this growth will continue. District factories can hold their own against all comers at outside shows, and will welcome an invasion of exhibits from outside districts on this occasion. Entries close on January 26th, and early intimation will be appreciated by the secretariat.
