MAORI SADLY HURT
LORRY OVER BANK. HASTINGS, Monday. A Maori named Ri Kaurauria, of Oringi, near Dannevirke, met with a serious accident while driving a lorry down Te Aute Hill on his way from Dannevirke toward Hastings this afternoon. Tho lorry skidded in loose shingle and went over a bank, turning over several times. Kaurauria, who was by himself, managed to scramble out just before the lorry caught fire. He was found by another motorist, who was on the way to Palmerston, and who first noticed smoke and then saw the victim lying beside the lorry. He was unconscious, and when medical assistance came was found to have several broken ribs, one of which had penetrated the lung. His condition to-night was as well as could be expected under the circumstances. —(P.A.)
