LONDON SALES OPEN.
GOOD COMPETITION,
LONDON, Tuesday.
At the wool sales 6853 bales were offered, comprising 2189 from New South Wales, 1194 from Queensland, 702 from Victoria, 66 from West Australia, 98 from Tasmania, and 2364 from New Zealand. There was a good representative selection. There was a large attendance and good competition. Yorkshire and Germany operated freely, but France sparingly.
Prices, compared with December closing rates, showed merinos to be good, par to; 5 per cent, higher, top-making sorts fully firm; crosbreds and fine, 5 per cent, higher, and medium and low firm and unchanged.
SYDNEY SALES. STILL IN GROWERS’ FAVOUR. SYDNEY, Wednesday.
At the wool sales to-day, 10,550 bales were offered, and 10,106,1 sold at' auction; also 638 bales were disposed of privately. The trend of the market is still in growers’ favour, with the 5 per cent, advance noted at the beginning of the week fully maintained, especially in th© case of skirtings. Competition was keen. Greasy merino made up to 17d.
The W.F.C.A., Ltd., have received the following cable from London, dated January 12:— Wool sales opened to-day and were well attended by Home and Continental buyers. Fine, par to 5 per cent, advance; medium, par to 5 per cent, advance; coarse, no quotable change.
