WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION.
INVITATION TO AUSTRALIANS.
A meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa. Lawn Tennis Association Avas held last, eA’cning, Mr. S. R. Gawith presiding.
It Avas decided to offer the position of honorary coach to the association to Mr. Erie Einam, of Palmerston North. This means that Mr. Einam is offered the opportunity of acting as a professional coach in the Wairarapa district with the approval of the governing association, Avhich, however, incurs on obligation. The actual date for the A r isit to Mastorton of the Australian lady players now touring the Dominion has not yet been fixed. It Avas decided, however, to make application to the Wellington Association for leave to iin-ite Mcsdames 11. M. Dykes, W. J. Melody, and W. Sturman and Miss Dulcie Nieholls to play against the Australian ladies Avlien they visit- Masterton. It is hoped also to arrange some matches between the visitors and leading Wairarapa ladies. Final arrangements Avere made in connection Avith the Wairarapa tournament, entries for Avhich close next Saturday. The tournament is to open on Wednesday, January 20. Subject to confirmation by the other associations concerned, the folloAving dates Avere approved for inter-associa-tion matches:—Against Wellington, on February 6, at Martinborough; Mana-Ava-tu, on February 20, at Palmerston North; Wanganui, on February 27, at Carterton. It Avas decided to ascertain whether it would prefer to send a team here, or to receive a A'isit from a Wairarapa. team early in March. As time Avill not permit, there Avill be no additional rounds in the association’s A. and B. grade competitions. It is recommended that clubs should make arrangements for friendly matches. WILDING SHIELD. DUNEDIN, Monday. The following players haA r e been selected to represent Otago, Southland, North Otago and South Canterbury in a Wilding Shield match against Canterbury at Christchurch on Friday and Saturday: W. G. Robertson (Timaru), S. G. McDougall (Otago), G. A. Pearce (Otago), and G. Sumpter (Oamaru). AUSTRALIAN WOMEN AT TIMARU. TIMARU, Monday. The touring Australian Avomen tennis players appeared in a number of exhibition games here to-day. The Aveather Avas fine, and a large gallery Avas present. The Australians were far too good for the local players, giving eleA’er displays, Avhicli were greatly appreciated.
The visitors Avill leave for Invercar gill to-morrow.
