TRADE TREATY
CANADIAN AGREEMENT. STATEMENT BY PREMIER. CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. “The trade agreement with Canada will be along the lines of our treaty with Australia, and the matter of ratification will be considered by Cabinet as soon as the details of the scheme come to hand,” said the Prime Minister (the High Hon. G. W. Forbes). “The agreement will cover a lot of ground, but it will not deviate from the treaty with Australia. It is possible that the matter may be finalised by Order-in-Council. —(P.A.).
IMMEDIATE ACTION URGED.
AUCKLAND, Monday.
The Auckland wholesale grocery merchants telegraphed to-day to the Prime Minister urging that the Hon. W. Dovvnie Stewart be cabled with the object of arranging with Mr. Stevens, Canadian Minister, that the results of the new agreement be immediately made effective by Cabinet sanction and brought into force under Order-in-Council, thus avoiding the delay necessary to secure ratification by both Parliaments. —(P.A.).
