This morning the Governor General opened at tho City Council Chambers, Wellington, the annual conference of the New Zealand Associated Chambers of Commerce. The GovernorGeneral and Lady Bledisloe wijL leave Wellington on Saturday 24, for Christchurch and on Monday will. be present at the centenary cele- v brations of Kaiapoliia Pa, at Tualiiwi. yK Their Excellencies will then proceed to Dunedin to fulfil a number of engagements and at the conclusion of their stay at Dunedin a visit will be paid to several of tho small towns and agricultural districts in South Canterbury. The date of Their Excellencies ’ return to Wellington is at present uncertain. Mr J. Miller, S.M., returned to Masterton from Dannevirke yesterday afternoon.

The induction of the Rev. G. W. Blair will take place in the Featherston. Presbyterian Church this evening. Mr E. Walden, of the Featherston District High School staff, has been advised of his transfer as headmaster of the Ngakonui School near Taumarunui.

Miss Jean Stewart, of the staff of the Auckland Girls’ Grammar School, „ has been appointed principal of Nelson Girls’ College in succession to Miss, , > Mills, who has resigned. r ' thirteen applicants.
