MOTOR FATALITY.

DRIVER CHARGED. ALLEGED NEGLIGENCE. (By Telegraph —Press Association). WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Further evidence was taken to-day in the preliminary hearing of a charge against John Matthias Gamble, of negligently driving a motor car so as to cause the death of Joseph Alfred Banks and Cicely Mdbel Griggs. Mr W. H. Woodward, -S.M., was on the Bench.

Ernest Harold Hollaby, motor mechanic, with 25 years’ experience, said that when he examined the motor cycle he found it in good order and there were no defects in the steering gear or brakes on Gamble’s car. Gamble’s car was capable of a speed of 65 to 70 miles an hour. He could not express an opinion as to Gamble’s speed. When he left a skid mark of 124 feet on the roadway and then damaged Mason’s Store, Gamble must have been going faster than 40 miles an hour. * Gamble reserved his defence and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
