TRADE FIGURES.
A?-' > EXPORT VALUES DOWN. BIG DROP IN lAIPORTS. Features of the trade returns for September and for the nine months of the year are the marked decreases in the values of both imports anfl exports as compared with the corresponding periods of last year. Exports during September decreased by over £500,000, due largely to the low values ruling for butter and cheese compared with a year ago. On the other hand, imports showed a drop for the month of £1,371,000, or 27 per cent, compared with September, 1929. As is usual at this time of the year, there is a substantial excess of imports for the month, but, due to the great decrease in imports, the excess is over £560,000 less than a year ago. The month’s 1 figures afford the following detailed comparison:—
Imports Sept., 1930. Sept., 1929. x £ £ 3,711,313 5,082,319 Exports 2,074,015 2,582,543 Imports excess 1,637,298 2,499, '776 The position for nine months is set out in the following comparative table: Exports 9 months. 9 months 1930 1929 £ £ 37,131,080 45,654,779 Imports 33,34S,543 36,354,414 Exports excess 3,7S2,537 9,300,365
