JOY RIDERS.

MOTOR CARS REMOVED.

ONE ABANDONED AT lIASTWELLS. “Joy riders” have been fairly active in Masterton during the last week or two, as evidenced by the reported unlawful removal of a number of motor cars from private garages. Fortunately they were found abandoned in some street at no great distance from the particular garage. One car, however, belonging to Mr Robert Beattie, carrier, of Lansdowne, was driven as far as Ilastwells, and abandoned after it had gone over a low bank. It is surmised that the car was taken from Mr Beattie’s garage in King. Edward street some time on Sunday night. It was discovered by a Maori resident of the district early yesterday morning, who heard the noise of a crash. On going to investigate Ire found a car over a low bank, some distance from his house, undamaged, but deserted. The occupant, or occupants, apparently decamped as soon as the car went over the bank.
