BOWLING.
PARK CLUB. The Park Bowling Club was favoured with beautiful weather for its official opening on Saturday afternoon, when the president, Mr E. Bell, welcomed a goodly number of visitors from other clubs, and congratulated the caretaker (Mr Horton) on having prepared a good green for their use, which would be conducive to a higher standard of play. The hope was expressed that the membership of the club would be considerably increased and fuller advantage taken of the facilities for pleasant recreation amid ideal surroundings. Mrs Bell, wife of the president, threw up the first jack and bowl, and amid applause the season was declared open. Teams were picked and some very pleasant games indulged in, and during an interval afternoon tea was served in the Kiosk.
CARTERTON CLUB. The opening of the Carterton Bowling Club’s seasons attracted a very largo attendance on Saturday, and there was a special feature in the opening of the new pavilion, a handsome and well-appointed building of its kind, equipped, amongst other things, with a full-sized billiard table. So many visiting bowlers were present from other clubs that many of the Carterton members had to go without a game. The green was declared open for the season by Mr A. C. Tucker (president), and Mrs Tucker threw the first jack and bowl. The new pavilion was opened by Dr. D. G. Johnston, one of the founders of the club, who had some interesting things to say about the early days o the club, which is the oldest m the Wairarapa. .
