FARMERS’ UNION.
WOMEN’S DIVISION. MASTERTOX BRANCH. At an afternoon tea gathering, held in her honour in Messrs Hugo and Shearer’s rooms yesterday, Mrs C. 'C. Jackson was congratulated warmly on her election to the position of Dominion President of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The function was organised hv the Mastcrton branch of the Division, and though some members were kept at home by the state of the roads, there was an attendance of about fifty. Mrs I. E. Cameron, vicepresident, presided in the absence through illness of the president of the Mastcrton branch, Mrs A. C. Mac Diarmid. . . On behalf of members of the Division, Mrs T. W. Wardell presented Mws Jackson with a black morocco handbag and a beautiful bouquet of violets, sent by Mrs Arch. Clark, of Fcatherston. Mrs Cameron said they were all very proud that Mrs Jackson had been made president of the whole Division, and paid a tribute to the fine qualities their guest had exhibited in Various branches of community activity and service. Mrs Cameron spoke also of the growth of the Division, and said she remembered the time when they had only four or five members. Mrs Jackson thanked members of the Dovision for their gifts, and for the kind things said about her. She went on to speak about the aims and objects of the Division, and said she could see a great deal of work ahead. Exhorting members to do their utmost to increase the membership, ill's Jackson pointed out- that while the Farmers’ Union had 30,000 members, the Women’s Division had as yet only 5000. She declared herself strongly in favour of co-operation with other women’s organisations, and said it would be a very good thing to be represented on the National Council of Women.
