WIMBLEDON TOURNEY. RUGBY, Saturday. * The Wimbledon lawn tennis 'championships, which began on Monday and will continue through next week, are proving as popular as ever, and there is little doubt that last year’s attendance record of 200,000 for the whole meeting will be exceeded. There were 12,000 on the ground today one hour before play began. Fine weather has enabled good progress to be made iii all events. In the men’s singles, of • eight officially ‘ •'seeded” players, two have now’ been defeated — F, T. Hunter (U.S.A.) and G. L. Pat--terson (Australia). The following were the results:— MEN’S SINGLES. Fourth round.—Jacques Brugnon (France) beat G: L. Patterson (Australia), 0/3, 5/7, 0/4, 6/2; Ilenri Coehet (France) beat J. Boyd (Canada). 6/4, 0/1, 6/3. LADIES’ SINGLES. Third round.—Miss Bickerton (Australia) beat Miss E. F. Rose (England), 6/3, 6/1; Senorita E. d ’Alvarez (Italy) beat Miss E. Collyer (England), 6/4, 6/4. Fourth round. —Miss 1), Akhurst (Australia) beat Mrs Hoy lock (England), 6/4, S/10, 6/0; Miss Helen Wills (U.S.A.) beat Miss E. H. Harvey (England), 6/2, 6/3; Miss E. Ryan (U.S.A.) beat Miss K. Boyd (Australia), 6/2, 6/2. LADIES’ DOUBLES. Second round. —Mrs O’Hara Wood and Miss Bickerton beat Miss Huddlestone and Miss Thomas, 6/3, 4/6, 6/4. MEN’S DOUBLES.
