PROGRAMME OR GUIDE?

GAMING LAW CASE. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Monday. At the S.M. Court, Francis Joseph Haywood pleaded not guilty to publishing a document purporting to be a programme of trotting events at Forbury Park. There was an alternative charge of circulating a document. The publication was a “Sporting Guide” with a list of acceptors for the first day. / Chief-Detective Cameron stated that the acceptances were -given to the newspapers with permission to distribute to Press Association members, and the defendant had no right to copy and publish them. It was claimed that this caused a drop of 739 m the sale of official books at the meeting. Mr Cameron handed in an Auckland publication which had been prosecuted and convicted. Mr White, for the defence, stated that the Auckland publication had definitely stated that it was a programme, but “Sporting Guide” did not. People bought it as an indication of Turf form. The Magistrate, in reserving judgment, stated that at present he did not think the publication purported, to be a programme.
