At Fossilbrook, on the Lynd River, only two buildings, the school and the police station, were left standing. A dozen families were left without shelte rand had only the clothes they stood in. One man lost 400 goats. Since January 15th, 15 inches of rain have fallen. Rain is still falling at Brisbane.

The water mains supplying Ipswich are broken, and the- town is drawing its supplies from another reservoir, which, however, holds only two days’ supply. An earth tremor is reported from Cairns.

Heavy rains continue in various parts of the State and the extensive damage done to railways will involve the Department in huge expenditure. Reports from the- Railway Commissioner show that rain is falling heavily in the south-eastern division, causing flood troubles in different sections of the railways. Reports from various country centres state that enormous damage has been caused by raging streams and flood waters.' The Mary river at Gympie is still rising and has submerged all the- houses and shops in the low-lying parts of the town.- . .. ' Maryborough is also threatened by the flood and business people are preparing 4 to move their goods.
