TURF TOPICS. A Dunedin telegram says that Tanadees was scratched for all engagements, and Economist fur the Stewards’ Handicap at -the Dunedin races, at 9 o’clock this morning.
There have been few. faster ten furlongs at Trentham. than that won ■by Hynanna. He is one of ike leading three-vear-olds of the season, and he simply made hacks of 'his opponents at the business end of his race on Monday.
Although Rapier won the Wellington Cup fairly comfortably, he is capable of still further improvement ,and he is likely to win another big handicap before the -close of the season. Rapier’s success must have been very pleasing -to Mr Harry Hilton, of Masterton, who •owns Greyspear, the sire- of Rapier. The dam of Rapier has again this season been mated with Greyspear.,
With Star Stranger’s 2min. 17sec. for the eleven furlongs, Trentham now holds four Australasian records. The other three are Gloaming’s 45sec for half a mile, The Hawk’s lmin. 9 4-osee, for six furlongs, and Duo’s 2min. 57 4-ssec, for a mile and three-quarters. The Trentham track was particularly fast last week. In addition to the records enumerated, Trentham track holds New Zealand records for a mile and a half and two miles.
