WAIRARAPA TOURNAMENT.

CONCLUDING DAY’S PLAY.

The Wairarapa Lawn Tennis Association’s tournament was concluded to-day in glorious weather. .... The final of the. ladies’ champion doubles produced a splendid game, lasting from 9.30 till 1- o’clock. With one set in each, Misses Culver and Myerswere several times -right on to match point, but just failed, and their opponents, Mrs Melody and Miss V. Shortt, gradually crept up till 5 all was reached. Misses Ca-lver and Myers took -the next game, but their opponents evened up to- 6 all. Miss Shortt then won- a love game off her own service, and the next game (Miss Culver's service) also went the way of the Wellington pair, the set thus ending S/6 in favour of Mrs Melody and Miss Shortt. Following arc the results:— THE CHAMPIONSHIPS. COMBINED DOUBLES. Semi-finals. —Andrews and Miss Haggitt won from Clark and Mrs Groves, by default; Mailboy and Miss Fannin beat Hobson and Miss Lowry, 6/3, 4/6, i6/3. Final— Malfroy and Miss Fannin beat Andrews and Miss Haggitt, 6/0, 3/6, 6/4. LADIES’ DOUBLES. Final. —Mrs Melody and Miss V. Shortt beat Miss Myers and Miss Culver, 6/1, 11/13, S/6. THE HANDICAPS. COMBINED DOUBLES. (A Grade.) Fourth round. —Miller and Miss Napier (10) beat Griffiths and Miss Clark, 60/48. Semi-final. —Martin and Miss Bradley (8) beat Miller and Miss Napier (10), 60/48. Final—Wills and Miss McGregor (20) beat Martin and Miss Bradley (S), 60/ 56. MEN’S DOUBLES. • • A Grade. Final. —Hodder and Miller (5) beat Barkman and Christie (10), 70/48. MEN’S SINGLES. ’ A Grade. Final. —Barkman (scr) beat Entwistle (scr), 70/67. PARK V. MAN GAPAKEHA.

The following is the.. Park team do play Manga-pakelia on. the Park courts on Saturday, play to commence at 10 a.in.: —Misses Finlayson, Allan, Bright, Selby, Magrath and Mrs Hatch.
