DIPHTHERIA.
A PECULIAR FORM. USUAL SYMPTOMS ABSENT. (By Telegraph-T-Pre3S Association.) 1 GISBORNE, Wednesday. Some unusual features in connection! with the death of a 21-months-old in* fant from diphtheria were revealed at an inquest to-day. It was stated in evidence that the‘ child apparently had a cold, and was being treated for this by her parents. She g(Ue no indication of suffering pain or having a sore throat, and apparently had no difficulty in swallowing her food up' ■ to within 12 hours of deaflv. 11 '^ 11 *■ : <i The coroner fettirned: '•ai-A-ofdie# ffhot the cause of cieitth -tfft3'dieart-failure due to diphtheria infection:-' Ho said he would like the Press to note the fact of the peculiar type of diphtheria now prevailing, and no doubt, the Health Department would stress the importance of parents summoning medical immediately.
