OPERA HOUSE. TO-NIGHT \S GREAT OPENING OF “THE WHITE SISTER." The season’s greatest • dramatic achievement, “The White Sister," at last commences in Masterton this evening at the Opera Housed The season consists of five night and one special matinee on Friday. It is a perfect adaption of F. Marion Crawford’s widely read novel, told in all its dramatic intensity and filmed in Italy. Miss Gish rises to supreme heights. Her portrayal of Angela places her in a, class by herself. The actual eruption of Mt. Vesuvius is shown. Molten lava flowing down the side of the mountain is pictured, with the mouth of the crater ,belching forth fumes and fire. Then comes a. flood, an entire town being wiped out. The management have completed special arrangements for its presentation here, notably a special musical programme, by an augmnted orchestra of nine talented instrumentalists; also a gorgeous prologue on a sumptuoits scale. Norris's widely reai book, “Bread," which is credited with running into 50 editions, will be shown, commencing at the Cosy Theatre, this evening, at 7.45 sharp, ’ This very powerful story, which vigorously and fearlessly reproduces the struggle for existence that besets the lives of so many in the big cities to-day, is said to have been enacted for the screen with quite exceptional convincing power by a sterling cast of players. Prominent in the big list are Pat O’Mally, Mae Busch, Robert Bosworth, Wanda Hawley, Robert Fraser, Myrtle Stedman and Ward Crane.
