A PUBLIC FAREWELL.

TO SALVATION ARMY OFFICERS. A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. A very successful and well attended social gathering was lic-ld in the Salvation Army Hall last evening, the occasion being the public farewell to Adjutant A. Wheeler and Adjutant M. Marshall, who, for 'the past two years, Pave had charge of the local Salvation Army work. It was also the final visit ns divisional commander of Lieut.-Col-onel Carmichael. Through the reorganisation of divisions in connection with Salvation Army activities, Masterton and other Wairarapa districts are being dctachc-d from the Central North, and will henceforth be connected with T\ e-1-lin.d on. The meeting was presided over by Colonel Carmichael. M ords of appreciation and goodwill were spoken by representative speakers, and both the officers replied suitably, thanking all who had helped to make their work so successful and pleasant. A report of work accomplished during the two years was given by Colonel Carmichael. This report showed marked prograss in every section. The membership had nearly doubled, while the losses have been comparatively nil. The congregation, week-night and Sunday attendances had more than doubled. The Band had increased in membership and efficiency, and the young people’s activities had made marked progress. Many improvements had been made to the properties, including the electric light in both halls and the officer’s residence, neW and more up-to-date glass in the windows, and a new and well-built, b.-uidroom. Music during the evening wais supplied by the .band and the singing company and mandolin quartette party. Supper brought a very happy evening to a conclusion.
