Mr. and Mrs. A. Donald, Kopuaranga leave to-day on a holiday visit to tiie South Island. Mr. M. J. O ’Connor, head teacher at the Waihi School, has been appointed - headmaster of the Pahiat-ua D. H. - V School out of twenty applicants. The death occurred in Paliiatua on Saturday morning of Mrs. Emma acnoiield, of Konini, at the age of 66 years. The late Mrs. Schofield liad been a sufferer from heart trouble. She had lived over 40 years at Konini, being one of the very earliest arrivals there from Wellington. She had the distinction of being one of the very first women, to settle at Konini. She. leaves three sons, one of whom, Poster, lives at Konini, and the other two —Walter and Eaton —at Hamilton (Waikato), and Ilrs. • Newell (Palmerston North), whilWpc eased’s brothers are Messrs. W. anXFBriiland. The late Mrs. A. Z. Hoar, who passed away early on New Year’s Day, at the ripe age of 84, was one of the oldest residents of Masterton. She arrived here over 50 years ago, and nobly took her part in all the hard toil and cares of -the early pioneers. She was a most devoted ’ worker in the Methodist Church in the days of her health, and to the very last took a keen interest in its success. F-or over 20 years -she was an invalid, and most of that time being confined to her bed —but through all the long years she was ever a most patient sufferer and of -cheerful disposition. Her intellect was clear to the last, and she never failed to make inquiries after her old. friends, and those who had come to visit her in her affliction. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon aud—ivas largely attended. At the house and at the graveside, the Rev. W. Beckett referred briefly to the many excellent qualities of the deceased lady. Her favourite hymns, “.Jesus Lover of niy Soul,”*fcy “Abide With Me.” were suug quest. The pall bearers were Messrs. C. E. Daniell, D. Donald, A. J. Donald and L. Donald. At Wesley Church in the evening feeling reference was made to Mrs. Hoar’s long membership in the church and to the sincerity of , her Christian life. The sympathy of the congregation was passed to old Mr Hoar, who only the previous Sunday was farewelled as -caretaker, after a sci vice of 50 years.
