TERRIFIC EXPLOSION.

POWER STATION WRECKED. (Received Wednesday, 11.20 a.m.) CAPETOWN, Tuesday. Victoria Falls power station, situated at Yereeniging, thirty miles from Johannesburg, the largest power station in South Africa, was wrecked by an explosion early this morning. Huge masses of machinery, some weighing over a ton, were hurled hundreds of yards, cutting jlown- trees. Some large masses oi; iron fell -across the A aal river, upon which the station stood. It supplied one-fifth of the total electric power required to work the Rand mines, and also light for a number of townships. All these services aio now at a standstill. No one was seriously hurt. The cost of the replacement of the station is approximately £50,000. Aus. and X;Z. Cable Assn.
