Proposals have been circulated among the local authorities throughout the country by the Minister for Health, under which county councils will absorb the functions of the existing poor law authorities. This step is a- further phase in the process of revolutionising and simplifying the administration of the law, and the lopping off of the historic anomalies, inaugurated by Lord Birkenhead, whose radical revision of the property law comes into operation on January Ist next. —-Renter'.
