ANOTHER COMPLAINT—YES!
y . (To the Editor.) Sir, —At the last Borough Council meeting we were informed that Lansdowne (North Ward) was going to get its water supply for the sum of £ISOO, that is, the cost of piping it to their premises from the town boundary, namely, the Waipoua bridge. Residents of Masterton have been familiar foC years,'in, summer time, with these news items:—Low, pressure for fire fighting purposes. A‘loan for a .higher intake and larger -reservoir.'' Prohibiting people from using water at certain hours. Water inspectors and borough officers • patrolling the town to see that the .notice re water shortage is respected. Those who disergard these notices and take an extra pint are summoned to appear before the Magistrate for using what they pay After spending £40,000 on our reservoir and reticulation to town, those Eansdowne hill climbers are to get thousands of gallons of water daily for the piping. Now, is it reasonable to give this water away per- 4 manently, when we are restricted, for. having outvoted a larger, water supplyscheme? Ratepayers, .the first act in the amalgamation, scheme has taken place —“at your expense.!’ Act two has been mooted already by a council- !>u lor; namely, to divert tbjs. sewerage tp the town septic tanks; already working ■ . . to their utmost capacity. Act three, after dodging rates for thirty years, “Equal rights and votes for all’’- —a•., ; greater Masterton —come right in— • lights out —we work better in thfe dark. . “Finale.’’ —I remain, for ye'ars to come, OVERBURDENED RATEPAYER. : .,
