A COOLIE’S FORTUNE.

ACCUMULATES £25,000.

WAGES FOURPEXCE A DAY.

A story of a fortune accumulated by the thrifty habits of a coolie has just been unfolded in the Calcutta High Court. An action was brought by the Administartor-General of Bengal relative to a man named Dobev who died without an heir, and left property worth £25,000. Dohey as a labourer, never earned more than fourpenee a day. His first purchase of property was a mud-house on the outskirts of Calcutta, for which he paid sixty rupees (£4). This he sold at a profit of over 400 per cent.; and thereafter, by careful investment in land and properties, lie went on adding to his wealth until, at his death, he left the fortune mentioned in the Court proceedings. The Administrator-General was granted Letters of Administration in the estate.
