AMERICA IN THE PACIFIC.
WEAK POINTS. A CANDID GENERAL. WASHINGTON, Friday. General Mitchell gave further evidence before the Aircraft Committee of the House of Representatives to-day. He asserted that there is an entire lack y f co-ordination between the army and the navy forces in Hawaii, which is a strategic point, and must be maintained. Ho said the commanding general find admiral there would not speak to each Other, and that the defences of, Hawaii are now as oosolete as find arrows. General Mitchell advocated aeroplane and submarine bases for Hawaii, but declared that the Philippines could not be held for two weeks against a Japanese attack. Meanwhile, reports persist that General Mitchell will be given the choice of resignation Of his position as Assistant Chief of the Army Air Force, or removal, owing to his criticisms of the army and navy heads, but Pacific naval officers have endorsed General Mitchell’s claim for superiority of aircraft over battleships, as the result of tests carried out at Ban Pedro, where fivo giant seaplanes dropped bombs on a moving target from an altitude of 7300 feet, and demonstrated conclusively that the battleship is an easy prey for aircraft, according to Lieu-tenant-Commander Stron, director of tests. —Sun.
