GRAIN AREAS SUFFER.
PRICE OF WHEAT.
NEW YORK, Wednesday
C'hieago reports state that great sections of Canadian wheat areas have been heavily damaged by drought, and this has caused prices of wheat to reach the season’s high level of 1 dollar 27 cents for September delivery, a gain of 5 3-S cents a bushel over yesterday’s quotations. Private dispatches indicated that thousands of acres have been ploughed under, while other areas have been burned black, and important lands would csarcely return the seed. Official dispatches indicate that cropsaving rains fell in Northern Alberta and southern and central Saskatchewan. Excessive droughts, however, are still continuing in Northern Saskatchewan.
Crain dealers freely predict " that wheat will shortly reach 1 dollar 50 cents a bushel. Maize also has made a sensational advance of 41 cents, reaching 91 cents per quarter for May delivery, due to adverse crop reports from Ohio, Indiana. —Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.
