MINING DISPUTE
POSITION UNALTERED. A CO-OPERATIVE SCHEME. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, Tuesday., It is understood that Mr. A. H. Kimbell, Under-secretary for Mines, will tomorrow submit to representatives of the State Miners’ Union proposals for working the State mines of the Grey district, the Liverpool and James collieries, on a co-operative basis, dividing the mines into seven sections, any one of which may bo co-operatively worked on trial.
If the whole scheme is accepted a board of control will be established xe presenting the men and the department, with the Minister as chairman. If only one or two sections of the scheme are decided on there will be no board. Subsequently Mr. Kimbell will address a public meeting of miners at Runanga on the scheme. Any alternative ixroposals from the men will be given consideration. The position of the coal lock-out remains unaltered.
The Ngakawau Union this morning negatived the Minister’s proposal re a 5 per cent, increase for the two lowest paid groups of under men, but it is understood that the Ministerial pronosals are being now considered by the Miners’ Council prior to referring them to the rank and file.
